Longtail Keyword Optimization Software Easily Doubles Traffic

If you aren’t familiar with the concept of the Longtail, I encourage you to read about it. Originally the term was coined by Chris Anderson. Since then, plenty has already been written about it, and it has been explained way more thoroughly than I could do here.

In relation to keyword optimization, the Longtail refers to the seemingly endless combinations of modifier keywords that web searchers add to base keywords when they input search text into a search engine.

Take, for example, a site about quitting smoking. A couple common searches may be ‘quitting smoking’ or ‘giving up smoking’. These may be searched for relatively frequently, so the site owner may want to optimize the website for these terms.

But the Longtail dictates that approximately half of all web searches (or more) inputed into Google or other search engines are not commonly searched for phrases. they are unique phrases that are only searched for once per month or even less frequently.

Most of my sites receive a major percentage of their search engine traffic from Longtail keyword searches.

Using the example keyword ’stop smoking’, Longtail keyword searches would include:

Anyone site that is not optimizing for Longtail searches is missing a ton of traffic.

Applying the results from Word Sorter

Here’s another example. I used the WordTracker database to generate the top 1000 keyword searches for ’stop smoking’. Then I exported that keyword list to a text file. After feeding the keyword list to Word Sorter, it produced the following list (The list shown below is just the portion of the list visible in the screenshot).
Word Sorter Text List

What is significant about this list?

The list shows the individual words that appeared most frequently throughout the top 1000 keyword searches for ’stop smoking’. I call words on the list Modifiers. Web searchers added these words to the original keyword search (stop smoking) to attempt to find increase the relevancy of the search results.

We cannot accurately predict every Longtail keyword web searchers will use to query Google. But, by including the most frequently occurring Modifiers in your webpage text and occasional inbound link anchor text, your site will begin to receive a lot more search engine traffic from Longtail keyword searches.

Word Sorter simply allows you to smartly play the probability.
